Job summary
Psoriasis, eczema and HS are some of the long term conditions of the skin which can be treated with systemic and biologic drugs. Biologic drugs have been designed to mimic normal human molecules. They are used to treat a number of conditions and they reduce inflammation by preventing over activity of part of the immune system. There are several biologic drugs currently licensed for use with people suffering from moderate to severe psoriasis. Biologics are expensive relatively new drugs we cannot prescribe them without first checking that patients meet all the criteria set by NICE.
Systemic treatments are available as tablets all of them require clinical assessment and tests before a patient starts (usually blood tests) to check that it will be safe for patients once a patient has started treatment they will need to attend regular follow up and further monitoring blood tests.
The role of the Dermatology Biologics and Systemics Patient Pathway Co-ordinator is integral to the Dermatology Department for tracking, developing and monitoring the pathways of care for those patient groups who are on systemic and biologic treatments.
Working as a member of Dermatology Biologics and Systemic Specialist Team the post holder will provide a combination of support and administration duties in the delivery of services for patients with Eczema and Psoriasis making a direct and positive contribution to the work of the team.
Main duties of the job
- To deal with all enquiries in a responsive and professional manner to ensure a positive image at all times. To liaise with all disciplines of staff, both within and outside the Trust to ensure that effective communications are maintained.
- Act as a point of contact for the Dermatology Team for primary and secondary care health professionals communicating simple and complex information relating to patient treatment, prescriptions and care requirements
- Liaise with various clinical areas & teams as necessary for the coordination of patient care, services and treatments including ensuring prescriptions are completed by the specialist nurses, to ensure smooth patient experience including arranging patient appointments and day case procedures where required
- Assist in the development of and maintain databases and data collection for education, audit and surveillance purposes where appropriate
- To organise meetings as requested by the team including arranging venues, agendas, training materials or education sheets are prepared in advance.
- Prioritise workload and work with indirect supervision whilst recognising own limitations and when to seek support.
- Filing of all patient information as appropriate either electronically (on Evolve) or physicall
The post holder will have responsibility for the organisation and delivery of the weekly multi-disciplinary team meetings and follow up decisions taken. Ensuring all communication fully completed and shared where required.
