Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the department of Biochemistry Automation at Bristol Royal Infirmary for a Senior Biomedical Scientist. Applications are invited from suitably experienced, committed, highly motivated, quality driven, and enthusiastic individuals who will senior Biomedical Scientist colleagues in delivering a high quality service.
The department will be soon implementing a new state of the art automated solution from Beckman Coulter Diagnostics (1x AU5822, 1xAU5812, 2 DxI 800s and DxA track). This new solution also includes an improved laboratory layout and workflow. The post holder will be required to assist in the implementation of the new solution whilst also ensuring the current system (2x Roche Cobas 8000s & 1 Roche Cobas 6000 lines) delivers a high quality service for patients and service users.

Main duties of the job
- Manage the daily activities of staff within the section to maintain service provision.
- Ensure that the quality of the scientific, technical work of the section and the results produced meet departmental key performance standards
- Monitor performance of analytical equipment through periodic iQC and EQA review.
- Attend and provide reports for senior staff meetings.
- Support staff in the transition from current to new automated solution within the department.
- Operate within the quality management and clinical governance processes currently in place.
- Escalate any adverse incidents or service disruptions to the Principal BMS.
- Participate in out of hours shifts, where required.

Essential
- HCPC approved Biomedical Science degree (or equivalent) State Registration with the HCPC.
- Relevant Masters degree (MSc) or Fellowship of the Institute of Biomedical Science (F.I.B.M.S) or equivalent.
- 3+ years BMS experience working in relevant routine clinical laboratory.
Knowledge and Experience
Essential
- Sound practical and theoretical knowledge of all routine aspects of the laboratory.
- Good knowledge of EQA and IQC practices.
- Good knowledge and understanding of verification and validation principles.
- Quality and health and safety experience.
- Evidence of continuing professional development.
- Experience of producing documents that meet ISO 15189 standards.
