Job summary
An exciting maternity cover opportunity has arisen for a professional, friendly, and patient focussed individual to join the Primary Care Dental Service for 12 months.
The ideal candidate will have qualifications and experience attributed to the role of a community Dental Therapist, as well as a flexible and pro-active approach to working within a busy service.
Please note: the post holder will work from our dental departments based in Bristol & Weston
Main duties of the job
- Carrying out the full range of treatments currently permitted under the General Dental Council Scope of Practice Regulations including the long term monitoring of patients oral care needs
- Treatment may be provided within the dental surgery or on a domiciliary basis.
- Plan and carry out planned oral health promotion interventions
- Supervise treatment undertaken by student Dental Hygienist / Therapist students
- Specific duties may only be undertaken if trained and competent to do so.
- Undertake detailed medical histories for all patients including close liaison with referring Dentists and General Medical Practitioners if appropriate.
- The supervision of dental nurses in the preparation of clinical areas
- To work with all Primary Care Dental Service patients, including patients with special needs.
- The Oral Health Practitioner will require appropriate communication skills beyond that required for routine dental care in General Dental Practice
- To be fully conversant with first aid and resuscitation techniques attending regular training.
- To be fully conversant with trust manual handling policy especially due to the high number of patients who are a wheelchair user.
- Active participation in clinical or peer review.
- Take responsibility for the clinic in the absence of the dentist.
