Due to our ongoing commitment in supporting & developing staff in the Children's Emergency Department an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Emergency Nurse Practitioner (ENP) development role.

The Children's Emergency Department see just under 50000 children from Bristol and the surrounding area. We are a major trauma centre for the Severn & Wessex Peninsulas with all specialities based within the Children's Hospital. As a ENP you will be exposed to a diverse variety of presentations - medical, surgical and orthopaedic with opportunities to be involved in audit, research & ongoing departmental developments.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will develop and expand their knowledge, attending the Advancing Practice in Clinical Assessment Reasoning & Differential Diagnosis module at University West of England (UWE). This 40-credit module will prepare you to take a focused history; examine patients using a systems-based approach; request appropriate diagnostic tests; interpret these; make a differential diagnosis & construct an evidenced based management plan for a range of patients presenting with an undifferentiated range of symptoms. This will require demonstration of a higher degree of complex decision-making skills, expertise & knowledge in managing risk and diagnostics effectively & safely in the clinical context & environment within which you work. Throughout the duration of the course you will work clinically in the Children's Emergency Department with full mentorship & supervision from Band 7 ENP & Consultant team & one day per week at UWE. During weeks where there is no scheduled time at UWE you will work clinically for the full contracted hours to further the opportunities & become a competent & confident autonomous ENP.

Successful applicants will need to have a minimum of 4 years Paediatric Emergency Care experience or with a combination of paediatric emergency care and critical care. You must be able to demonstrate critical thinking, problem-solving and managerial skills. Any relevant CPD study at Degree or Masters level will further enhance application.
