Job summary
The imaging department at Weston General Hospital is looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated permanent Band 7 Reporting Radiographer.
Applications are invited from currently HCPC registered Reporting Radiographers who have attained a Post-graduate SCoR accredited qualification in Chest/Abdominal and Musculoskeletal Diagnostic Reporting to join our friendly Radiology team.
The successful candidate will provide the Trust with a high-level reporting service for a specified range of plain film images.
We require staff with excellent communication skills, a flexible approach; commitment and passion to deliver and improve the service. Weston General Hospital Radiology Department as part of University Hospitals Bristol and Weston is accredited by QSI, and all members of the radiology department are expected and encouraged to play an active role within this.

Main duties of the job
- To provide the Trust with a high-level reporting service for a specified range of plain film images.
- Clinical input in to the service, including producing independent free text reports of a specified range of plain film appendicular, axial, chest and abdominal Radiographs completed on the Weston Hospital site. Recommending next step in patient pathway as appropriate.
- Post holder responsible for working within own competency and referring any images outside this to a Consultant Radiologist
- Post holder directly reports to the Deputy Operations Manager, Weston and to the Lead Reporting Radiographer but is autonomous and responsible for providing written and verified radiological reports in own name and to be accountable for these reports.
- To provide an x-ray service to the Trust by providing high quality images.
- To provide first line managerial responsibilities for all aspects of the general service including staff recruitment, appraisals, sickness management, assisting in the monitoring of performance management with regards technique and quality
- To implement and oversee maintenance of the quality and governance of the radiographer reporting service providing high level clinical input

Knowledge and Experience
Essential
- Extensive radiographic knowledge and relevant experience of trauma, acute and general radiology accrued within the NHS setting
- Clinical experience of autonomously interpreting radiographic studies to a high standard of accuracy
- Experience of Quality control programmes for equipment and quality assurance programmes
- Experience of conducting Audit
- H&S regulation relating to radiation protection (including IRMER regulations)
- Computer skills for patient data and image manipulation for digital modalities
- Knowledge of best practice in general Radiography technique
- Physical skills required - dexterity, co-ordination and sensory skills required for precise positioning of patients with narrow margins for error
- Knowledge of ionising radiation protection regulations
Desirable
- Experience in other areas of an x-ray service would be highly valuable
- Experience of leading and organising a team
- Manual handling skills, including moving, lifting, lateral transfers and the use of a hoist

- Ability to prioritise workflow through x-ray rooms according to clinical needs of patients, and to prioritise the needs of different hospital areas.

- PC skills, image interpretation (visual recognition of contrast, sharpness, resolution), ability to estimate distances accurately (for exposure of images), manipulation of mobile image intensifier accurately
- Basic knowledge of IT skills in relation to radiology information system, and computer controlled radiology equipment
- Ability to teach/mentor staff of all grades
