Are you excited by the prospect of leading and shaping an innovative new service at the hospital front door?
Are you a confident clinician with a passion for working with the MDT to ensure patients get the right care at the right time?
Would you like to work in the centre of the vibrant city of Bristol?
If so, this may be the post for you!
Due to additional investment in our services, this brand new post has been created to establish a speech and language therapy presence at the front door of the Bristol Royal Infirmary (BRI), including ED and assessment units. We are looking for an experienced and dynamic clinician to build strong relationships with the MDT and promote our role within front door services. The post holder will provide early identification and management of communication and swallowing difficulties, support patient flow, and contribute to decision-making regarding admission avoidance.
In addition to this post, the Trust is investing in a new SLT/dietetic support worker for the BRI front door and this role will provide leadership for that post. We also have new funding for front door posts at Weston General Hospital (one of our other UHBW sites), so there will be ample opportunity for close peer working.
Main duties of the job
- To manage a caseload of complex patients, utilising expert clinical reasoning strategies, treatment planning, and implementation of national and local clinical standards and evidence-based practice within the service.
- To provide leadership and responsibility for the speech and language therapy team within front door services, developing skills and knowledge across the team. To have specific responsibility for the development and coordination of a specialist, evidence-based SLT service, in line with national and local strategy.
- Raise the SLT profile within the Trust by contributing to organisational initiatives & reporting SLT successes and achievements from within the pathway.
You will be joining our large (and growing) team of 28 speech and language therapists working across UHBW sites. We are a friendly and inclusive team, focused on delivering high-quality, evidence-based care for the communities we serve. We have a strong culture of support, development and leadership including:
- Support in accessing a wide range of training and CPD opportunities to ensure you flourish in your role
- A rolling in-service training programme with brilliant teaching from team members and multi-disciplinary colleagues
- Regular 1:1 and peer supervision
- Commitment to our flexi-time policy to support your work-life balance
- A wealth of wellbeing support and strong team spirit
