For successful applicants we are offering the opportunity to help us develop this new Band 3 New-born & Infant Physical Examination (NIPE) Maternity Assistant position. This post has been created to support our NIPE practitioners during the NIPE Clinics.

We are also extremely proud to be in the process of implementing further changes within the our NIPE clinics to improve the care we provide for our babies. From the outset the successful candidate will be a part of these plans and will help us deliver the new changes to the maternity team.

As a service, we are passionate about supporting our Maternity Assistants and will ensure that you are supported with the necessary knowledge and guidance to ensure a smooth transition to this new post.

Main duties of the job

The NIPE Midwifery Assistant (NMA) is a member of the direct care team who supports practitioners to meet patient needs. The NIPE Midwifery Assistant (NMA) is responsible for providing support toNIPE practitioners who are undertaking the Newborn & Infant Physical Examination.

A NMA will be expected to undertake a range of duties under the direction of and will be required to report back on those delegated duties to a Neonatologist or NIPE Practitioner. The NMA will be competent to provide compassionate care to agreed quality standards.

The NMA role will continue to develop through the development of further skills, knowledge and competencies that will be determined within the NIPE team through ongoing assessment and the needs of theward/service to deliver patient care.

  • NVQ level 3/ QCF Level 3 in Health or Social Care or equivalent or working towards.
  • GCSE A*- C in both English Language and Mathematics or equivalent in these two subjects e.g. Certificates in Adult Literacy and Numeracy at Level 2

Skills & Abilities

  • Effective communication skills, verbally and written.
  • Ability to work well in a team.
  • Able to complete appropriate documentation accurately.
  • Demonstrate an awareness of healthcare work and policies and procedures.

  • Be able to manage S4N Failsafe's to ensure no NIPE 'breaches occur.
  • Be able to proficiently run the Smart 4 NIPE system.
  • Experience of working within the NIPE Clinic.
