Specialist Pharmacist – High Cost Drugs

Job summary

A new and exciting post working across established high cost drug pharmacy teams at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston, and North Bristol NHS Trusts to deliver medicines value projects and high cost drug pathways in collobration with BNSSG ICB. Working closely with clinical teams to deliver best patient outcomes from high cost medicines.

Main duties of the job

  • To be responsible for developing and delivery of specific efficiency projects in defined clinical areas, within UHBW, NBT and the BNSSG ICS.
  • Work across the BNSSG system with all stakeholders to develop and implement agreed treatment pathways
  • To ensure that the clinical pharmacy teams in UHBW and NBT deliver outcomes for specific projects, supporting teams with planning and engagement where any intervention, local audit or efficiency is required
  • To liaise and negotiate with a range of Senior Divisional Managers and Consultants, including Trust Commissioning Teams, Finance Managers, Clinical Pharmacy staff, Divisional Directors, Clinical Effectiveness staff, Medical Director and Deputy/Associate Medical Directors to ensure successful implementation of project within their areas
  • To be responsible for monitoring, projecting and reporting on HCD expenditure, demonstrating productivity, quality and efficiency gains.
  • Management , appraisal, supervision/mentoring, continued professional development and recruitment.
  • Line management of the UHBW Band 7 High Cost Drugs Pharmacist
  • Provide education to medical staff, nurses and other health care professionals as required.

Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • Masters degree (or equivalent) in Pharmacy
  • Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Postgraduate Diploma or MSc in Clinical Pharmacy
  • Evidence of continuing professional development

Desirable

  • Qualification in Independent Prescribing
  • Membership of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society

Knowledge and Experience

  • A thorough knowledge of UK hospital pharmacy practice, care boundary issues and medication commissioning
  • Previous experience of audit & quality improvement
  • Experience and ability to initiate, lead, manage and supervise a range of projects
  • Experience of managing and motivating staff, appraising and giving feedback
  • Knowledge of basic medicines information and critical appraisal techniques to apply medical / pharmacotherapeutic evidence to patient care
  • Knowledge of budgetary management and financial control
  • Knowledge of the legal framework for the dispensing, prescribing and administration of medicines
