Job summary
Weston Intensive Care Unit (WICU) have a permanent practice education facilitator (PEF) post for an experienced critical care nurse and effective clinical leader to deliver and manage the education requirements of the ICU and critical care outreach teams. The post holder will lead the implementation and evaluation of education and training for the nursing teams, co-ordinating induction of new staff, providing mentoring and preceptorship, and overseeing the ongoing professional development of nursing staff including the completion of the National Critical Care Competency Framework.
WICU is a multidisciplinary team who work in collaboration alongside the various clinical services at Weston General Hospital. WICU is part of the Division of Surgery and is closely aligned with General ICU at the Bristol Royal Infirmary but is very much an independent unit with a proud sense of identity.
The successful candidate will have a demonstrable track record of improving practice though education and learning, with the clinical experience to act as a credible and professional role model and a passionate commitment to the delivery of high quality ICU nursing care. You will need to be well-organised, forward thinking, and confident in your abilities as an educator and a clinical leader.
Main duties of the job
Working closely with the WICU senior sister to co-ordinate, plan, implement and evaluate in-service professional education and training for the critical care nursing staff on the unit and in outreach, and to promote and maintain standards of care in accordance with Trust and critical care standard operating procedures and policies.
Supporting staff to achieve competence and facilitating access to continuing professional development.
Coordinating strategic views on educational plans for addressing complex service needs and developing roles in the future in line with the Critical Care objectives.
Responsible for coordinating the development of evidenced-based practice within Critical Care, disseminating best practice and incorporating identified educational needs.
Providing support and development for all grades of nursing staff in clinical practice, through the medium of education and training and maintaining a database of staff development.
The post holder is also expected to support the Weston PEFs with the delivery of education related to acute nursing care, where appropriate, such as facilitating the BEACH and ALERT courses for ward staff.

To plan, implement and evaluate programmes of education and training at an appropriate level and to promote and maintain standards of care in accordance with Trust and Divisional standard operating procedures and policies.
