This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Paediatric critical care nurse to join the Wales and West Acute Transport for Children (WATCh) Service.
The WATCh Service is the regional Paediatric Critical Care Transport Service serving the Paediatric Intensive Care Units (PICU) in the Noah's Ark Children's Hospital, University Hospital of Wales (UHW), Cardiff and the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children, Bristol.
Covering one of the largest geographical areas in the United Kingdom, the service provides comprehensive paediatric critical care advice and support for 22 referring centres throughout South Wales and the South West of England.
The PICU in the Noah's Ark Children's Hospital has eight beds and admits children with a wide variety of paediatric medical conditions including oncology and cardiology as well as surgical presentations including acute neurosurgery.
The PICU in Bristol Royal Hospital for Children has 18 intensive care beds and is the designated supra-regional burns centre for children. The Unit cares for infants and children requiring cardiac surgery, children with major burns as well as a wide variety of paediatric medical, surgical, cardiology, oncological and renal presentations.
In addition, both of the PICUs are designated major trauma centres for children.
Main duties of the job
As a transport nurse you will contribute to the delivery of a high quality, safe and efficient transport service for critically ill children and their families, working in partnership with the multi-professional team. An exciting additional aspect of this role is the provision of independent nurse delivered high dependency transports (under remote Consultant supervision) into and out of the tertiary centres. Another part of your role will be supporting the relationships between the service and the referring centres in the role of the link nurse for a number of designated hospitals. Working in partnership with Service Educators and the link Consultant, there is the opportunity to contribute to the outreach education/annual update programme including the use of multidisciplinary simulation.
Applicants must be RSCN / RN part 15 with recent experience in children's critical care nursing, a post registration qualification in children's critical care; recent paediatric critical care transport experience is also desirable
