Job summary
Are you an enthusiastic and motivated Sonographer looking for a dynamic and supportive team?
Look no further than Somerset NHS Foundation Trust- Yeovil site.
The successful candidate would be expected to work as part of the ultrasound and wider team undertaking a wide range of ultrasound examinations. The post holder will be expected to work independently and produce diagnostic reports that provide advice on future patient management to referring clinicians. Experience in Nuchal Translucency and obstetric scanning would be an advantage. You will provide general and specialised ultrasound services in the main hospital and at outlying hospitals and clinics, thus providing highly skilled patient-focused care. Any other reasonable task as directed by the line manager commensurate with grade is also expected.
There will be weekend and bank holiday working, and lone working at associated Community Hospitals (Wincanton, South Petherton and Sherborne), therefore access to a vehicle which can be used for work purposes for traveling to various sites across the Trust is a necessary.

Please note this post requires previous NHS experience working in Ultrasound and producing independent reports. The interview will be in person only and involve a practical scanning session.
Main duties of the job
To work as part of the ultrasound team, rotating through Main Department Ultrasound Unit, Women's Hospital and peripheral sites.
To scan and independently report complex Ultrasound examinations ( General medical, DVT, carotid , neck, testes, gynae and obstetrics) in an accurate, timely manner and to a high standard
To produce reports answering the clinical question, to assist clinicians, GP's, Obstetricians and Gynaecologists with patient management.
Dealing with patients, staff, and relatives requiring communication skills involving issues of an extremely complex and stressful nature.
To perform any other reasonable task as directed by Line manager and commensurate with grade,

At Yeovil Hospital, we're a small, friendly, independent, and progressive team with a high degree of sonographer autonomy and significant role extension, including intervention, vascular, head and neck, and MSK specialties. Our department consists of 5 ultrasound suites within Radiology and our neighbouring Women's Hospital, a portable service for Orthopaedic Outpatients and wards, a dedicated scan suite for Ambulatory Emergency Care, and 3 peripheral sites. Sonographers are fully supported by the Ultrasound Lead in General and Obstetrics, 2 Advanced Practice Interventional Sonographers, our Consultant Sonographer/Clinical Director and Radiologists
