Job summary
This is a great opportunity for an ST1/ST2 to work in a busy, but well supported department with a team of highly motivated Consultants and trainees.
The appointee will work as part of the enthusiastic and dynamic Acute Medicine team, which is a Consultant led, multidisciplinary team for urgent and ambulatory care. The team offers fast, efficient ambulatory and on-going care for patients with acute care needs. The team has a close and excellent working relationship with our Emergency Department and local GPs.
This post will have the opportunity for leadership and development of new projects. Where appropriate, the unit would be prepared to support the successful candidates specialist interest to ensure personal development whilst in post. This role would also be ideal for those wishing to gain more experience in Acute Medicine and ambulatory care.
Main duties of the job
The post will be tailored to the successful applicant and their specific interests and the roles would include any of the following:
- Responsibility for the assessment and review of Acute Medicine Ambulatory Care patients.
- Discussion and review of clinical cases with senior clinical Acute Medicine team
- Follow-up and review of clinical results
- Developing Departmental clinical pathways
- Teaching
- This could include production of teaching resources and delivery of formal teaching sessions on:
- Internal Medicine or various relevant topics of interest
- Engage in quality improving projects
- Bedside teaching including demonstration of clinical signs and examination
- Audit projects
- Join in with Medical departmental activities e.g. the M&M, educational meetings and involvement in clinical governance.
We encourage self-development, including teaching skills and also publication of work and projects.
There is no compulsory on-call component in this post, however, if the successful candidate would like to join the on-call rota this is negotiable and can be discussed with the education lead and service manager.
