Full Time 37.5 hours per week (over 4 days 8am6pm)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and passionate Occupational Therapist Clinical Specialist to join our well-respected Integrated Discharge Team (IDT) working in A&E and other urgent care assessment areas including our new Frailty SDEC (Same Day Emergency Care). The team works closely with acute and community services, providing comprehensive assessment of patients to avoid admission. We are supported by social care practitioners, specialist nurses and consultants.

The service operates seven days per week 8am-6pm

Our ideal candidate will be able to combine excellent clinical skills, positive risk taking and people management within this specialist field. They will be assertive, flexible, dynamic, forward thinking and able to prioritise under pressure in order to effectively and efficiently support service delivery.

You will work as an integral member of the MDT and lead on clinical audit and service development to assist in the achievement of national and local initiatives.

The post includes the guidance and development of the therapists and support staff within this team.

Main duties of the job

The successful post holder will be responsible for the delivery of excellent care by the OT team as well as carrying their own caseload. Supervisory skills and excellent communication are essential for the clinical support, direction and development of less experienced staff, rotational staff, assistants and students. They will also require excellent time management and interpersonal skills.

The post holder will act as an autonomous practitioner and as a source of expertise in the assessment, treatment and management of this patient group; providing advice to patients, carers, other health and social care professionals, consultants, GPs and fellow therapists. The post holder will incorporate national guidance e.g. NICE and NSF, and the use of evidence based research into their practice and that of the service.
