Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Gynaecological Oncology Surgical team at RSCH Foundation NHS Trust in Guildford.

Applications are invited for this Senior House Officer post (Junior Clinical Fellow) in Gynaecological Oncology at Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust NHS Foundation Trust.

Main duties of the job

This is a Senior House Officer (Junior Clinical Fellow) in Gynaecological Oncology Surgery with Mr Butler-Manuel, Mr Tailor, Ms Ellis and Mr Chatterjee, at the regional Cancer Centre in Guildford.

This is primarily a junior clinical post with some exposure to surgical procedures in theatres. The appointee will primarily be involved in the pre and post-operative medical care and assessment of patients, including fitness for surgery and liaison with other MDT members.

This post is aimed at a hospital doctor interested in pursuing a career in Gynaecological oncology however it is non-training Trust funded post.

The Junior Clinical Fellow (SHO) is primarily responsible for all the ward-based work including the medical management of all Gynae-oncology surgical in-patients. A daily ward round of all patients is expected, together with at least one of the senior Clinical Fellows or Consultant. Any significant clinical events and other data must be entered into the Gynae-oncology database which is used to produce all correspondence, documentation and audit data within the department, together with organization of the weekly MDT meetings. The SHO will be responsible for ensuring that the patients scheduled for surgery are reviewed in the pre-operative assessment clinic without any problems that may delay surgery and appropriate investigations arranged in liaison with the anaesthetic team. The SHO is also responsible for booking the theatre lists after discussion with the Consultant/Senior Fellow and booking ICU beds etc. The SHO will be exposed to some regular operating theatre experience as well.
