Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Ophthalmic Nurse to join our existing dedicated friendly team of staff within the ophthalmic department of the Royal Surrey Foundation Trust.We are looking for a 1st Level Registered Nurse with a minimum of 2yrs post registration ophthalmology experience. This position will clinically support the ophthalmology department and will be responsible for transforming the way in which we provide ophthalmology services at The Royal Surrey Foundation Hospital through application of Royal College and national recommendations such as Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) to deliver a sustainable and modern ophthalmology department.The post holder must possess good communication skills and be able to work well as part of a team. You must be flexible in your approach and be able to respond appropriately to the demands of an ever changing workload.Candidates who have experience of working in an ophthalmic clinic but do not have a diploma or degree in ophthalmology are welcomed to apply as well. They will be remunerated at a Band 5 level. We will provide training and upon successful completion of the course and the post holder will be uplifted to Band 6.The Eye clinic is open 0800hrs and 18:00hrs, Monday to Friday, subject to change with the ophthalmic service

o Provide specialist ophthalmology advice.o Accept / direct emergency referrals from other healthcare professionals and medical staff.o Take clinical histories and carry out examinations to make a differential diagnosis during autonomous nurse led clinic sessions. o Following training and assessment of competence perform specialist ophthalmology procedures.o Manage the department in the absence of the Department Manager.

As an Ophthalmic Sister within the Department, the successful candidate has a key role in the management, co-ordination and development of the Outpatients Ophthalmology Services and staff within the Trust.

The role involves the management of quality, clinical care, and advocate for the patient experience, effective management of resources and appropriate deployment of nursing staff.
