Job summary
Due to the continued development of the Pre operative Assessment Unit, an exciting opportunity has arisen for experienced and dynamic band 6 nurses to become part of a well-established and progressive team.
A challenging and busy environment, the Pre operative Assessment Unit (POA) is a specialist area providing assessment and information to a wide group of patients prior to surgery.
Members of the Pre operative Assessment Unit (POA) are valued and innovation is facilitated, there are excellent opportunities for development, within a supportive, friendly team.
The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and organisational skills, and a willingness to learn and develop within this specialist field of nursing. You will be expected to work autonomously on your own caseload of patients and take charge of the unit as required.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will take responsibility for the pre-operative assessment of patients awaiting surgery across the surgical specialities.
They should be experts in all areas of pre-assessment across all the specialities for both short stay and in-patient procedures, which facilitates clinical practice development.
This is to ensure that patients are fit and able to undergo a surgical procedure, prior to addition to the waiting list.
As nurse in charge they have overall responsibility for day-to-day management of their clinical area and for ensuring all care is delivered according to Trust policies and procedures maintaining associated records.
They will manage, support and lead a team of nurses in the delivery of evidence based patient centred care, which is of a high standard.
They will assist the senior sister in the management of staff including practice development reviews (PDR's), off duty, recruitment and selection and the supervision of learners.
They will provide advice and support to patients, relatives and members of the multi-disciplinary team.
Utilising clinical audit, research, supervision of practice and teaching, they will monitor and improve standards of care by efficient and effective use of resources and liaise with the senior sister at all times.
They will provide leadership on the Trust's values and behaviours.
