Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably experienced cancer exercise specialist to join the Fountain Centre team to support and lead the delivery of the cancer exercise/rehabilitation service.

The Fountain Centre is an independent charity based in the Royal Surrey Foundation Trust providing information and support to people affected by cancer across the local community.

The post holder will have a high level of experience working in oncology, for a charity or in healthcare. You must have excellent communication and IT skills are required with a good understanding of the role of the Fountain Centre and how it supports those affected by cancer.

Main duties of the job

The role of cancer exercise specialist plays an important part in the Fountain Centre's integrative oncology service as exercise medicine is seen as an integral part of cancer treatment. Evidence shows that exercise medicine is now a significant treatment modality in improving outcomes for cancer patients. This is a new role for the Fountain Centre and this post is pivotal in developing this service.

The post holder will manage a caseload and will work closely with the Fountain Centre Oncology Physiotherapist and The Royal Surrey Cancer Centre to provide a mixture of 1:1 and group support, both virtually, face-to-face and off-site, providing interventions to help cancer patients manage the psychological and physical impact of their diagnosis and cancer treatment.The role will demand a high level of flexibility, with the person being able to work within a highly challenging field. The post holder must also be able to work independently, be self-motivated and have a good understanding of cancer services.

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in exercise science, physiotherapy, or a related field, plus additional specialist training in working with patients with cancer or other long-term/complex medical conditions.

Knowledge and Skills
