Physiotherapy Assistant

Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic, hard working person who would enjoy working within a team and are keen to learn new skills.

This job will involve working closely with the Physiotherapists treating a variety of conditions in Orthopaedics, Neurology, Elderly Care, Medicine, Oncology and Surgery, as well as providing administrative support as necessary.

There is a requirement for flexible working as the service operates over 7 days and bank holidays.

No previous experience is required although previous experience in a health care setting is desirable. Training and support will be provided to help you develop relevant skills. Applicants must also have good written and spoken English.

Work permits are not available for this position.

Main duties of the job

A rotational post assisting the qualified physiotherapy staff in delivering a high quality and effective Physiotherapy service, following appropriate training and competency assessment. Issue and checking of equipment within rotatory area. Treatment of patients as directed by supervisor.

Responsible for effective communication with multi professional team members/ line manager.

Regular reporting to Physiotherapist on patients progress/ problems following each treatment

Communicate effectively with patients who may have impaired cognitive function i.e. stroke patients, deaf patients etc.

Assist in combined treatment of patients in conjunction with a Physiotherapist/ Technical InstructorContinuation of treatment of patients assessed by a Physiotherapist according to defined competencies and treatment protocols progressing treatment only as directed by supervisor.Preparation of relevant equipment, patients, clinical areas in readiness for treatment.Document all patient treatments according to department standards.Input appointments onto Surrey Safe Care.Time management of own daily list as discussed with clinical supervisor.Manage time effectively to see patients designated by supervisorAttendance at relevant meetings as appropriate with other health care professionals. Take notes, read out prepared patient reports and report back on patient plans.Ensure that each patient given informed consent prior to any treatment. If a patient cannot give consent discuss with supervisor.
