Job summary
We are looking for a Band 6 Junior Sister to join our multi-disciplinary team to help deliver a very high quality of care on this busy, stimulating and rewarding ward.
You will be supported by a team of experienced senior sisters, stroke coordinators, research nurse and specialist intensive care nurses for the very acutely ill patient.
You need to be well organised, approachable and confident to ensure that you are able to meet the daily demands of this diverse ward with both stroke and neurology patients. We are looking for a person who has the experience and ability to deputise for the senior sister and lead the ward team in a calm and confident manner.
The Royal Surrey County Hospital has developed a new approach for stroke care in Surrey by working in partnership with a neighboring Trust.The hospital is able to provide specialist stroke assessment 24/7 for all suspected stroke patients.The specialist assessment will enable patients to have urgent scanning and thrombolysis within 30 mins of arrival if patients meet appropriate criteria.The patients will be nursed on a ward with early rehabilitation beds before discharge home with the support of the Community Stroke team or for discharge to a specialist rehab unit if required.The patients will be reviewed by a stroke Consultant 24/7.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will deliver patient care on a daily basis. They should be expert in all areas of nursing care from patient's admission to discharge, which facilitates clinical practice development. As nurse in charge they have overall responsibility for day-to-day management of their clinical area and for ensuring all care is delivered according to Trust policies and procedures maintaining associated records. They will manage, support and lead a team of nurses in the delivery of evidence based patient-centred care, which is of a high standard. They will assist the senior sister in the management of staff including appraisal, rota's, recruitment and selection and the supervision of learners. They will provide advice and support to patients, relatives and members of the multi-disciplinary team. Utilising clinical audit, research, supervision of practice and teaching, they will monitor and improve standards of care by efficient and effective use of resources and liaise with the senior sister at all times. The will provide leadership on the Trusts values and behaviours.
