Job summary
Applications are invited for a MTI Trust Doctor post in Paediatrics at the Royal Surrey Hospital. This post has been set up under the AORMC MTI scheme and as such is significantly focused on providing high quality paediatric training so it is essential that any successful applicant is prepared to fully participate with the training and assessment components of this position.
The post is for a maximum of 2 years starting from September 2025.
The paediatric department accepts referrals for all paediatric medical emergencies, children with abdominal pain and children with orbital/periorbital cellulitis and head injuries. Other surgical, orthopaedic, ophthalmologic, ENT and maxillofacial problems are referred through the relevant departments. Children requiring paediatric intensive care are transferred out following stabilisation. Most paediatric general surgery cases aged less than 5 years are transferred to the regional centre at St. Georges Hospital.
The Special Care Baby Unit (Level 1) has 12 cots of which 4 are HDU/ITU cots. We admit premature babies who are >= 31 weeks and >= 1250g. If unable to be transferred out in-utero, babies younger than this or smaller than this are transported, once stabilised, to Ashford and St Peter's Level 3 NICU or other nearby level 3 neonatal units. The Child Development Centre functions within the children's unit, sharing premises with paediatric outpatients. This is where the majority of the outpatient clinics are held.
