Job summary

We have an opportunity for an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual to join the Molecular Diagnostics Department at the Royal Surrey Foundation Trust for a full-time, permanent position.

The Department is part of Berkshire and Surrey Pathology Services (BSPS). It is an ISO accredited service providing specialist molecular diagnostic services for BSPS departments, associated Trust clinicians and external laboratories in five health Trusts across the region. The department provides a variety of genetic services for the specific diagnosis of patients and to enable personalised, genetic-based oncology treatments.

The job advertised here is to assist in the provision these services.

We are looking for a state registered biomedical scientist or an individual who expects to be registered in the coming months. The successful candidate will be proactive in developing laboratory processes, have a keen eye for detail and work well in a team environment.

Main duties of the job

This is a biomedical scientist role in the molecular diagnostic department, within Berkshire & Surrey Pathology Services, located at the Royal Surrey County Hospital. The position is within a laboratory environment; the post-holder will be expected to participate in the delivery of a high quality service for all service users. To prepare samples and perform both routine and complex techniques efficiently and in a conscientious manner with respect to work pressures and quality of the service. Perform the initial screening and analysis of diagnostic tests producing complex diagnostic results in order to aid patient treatment and care. Participate in the provision of a comprehensive range of scientific and diagnostic services across a range of scientific disciplines Liaise with line manager as part of a team delivering high quality protocol based technical service under the supervision of Registered Biomedical Scientist staff Required to communicate with hospital clinicians, general practitioners, other healthcare professionals, patients and their representatives and commercial suppliers Required to operate sophisticated, automated laboratory equipment and perform scientific techniques under minimal supervision Appropriately handle body fluids and materials, including high risk specimens To report results in accordance with departmental SOPs and as appropriate to grade Ensure that processes needed for the Quality Management System are established, implemented and maintained.
