Applications are invited for one part-time(job share) clinical research posts (Clinical Fellow ST6 equivalent) in Gynaecological Oncology at Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust.
RSFT and Royal Surrey Cancer Centre combines a specialist cancer centre and general hospital it is located in Guildford, Surrey, within 45 minutes of London's Heathrow and Gatwick airports, with excellent road and rail network links. The Gynaecological cancer centre is the largest in KSS and offers a comprehensive range of treatment options on the one site for all aspects of Gynaecological oncology, including chemotherapy and radiotherapy with an active specialist gynaecology oncology MDT.
Royal Surrey Foundation Trust is an internationally renowned training centre for minimal access surgery and is the largest centre for robotic surgery in the UK. The Gynaecological oncology team has pioneered the use of robotics for the management of endometrial, cervical and ovarian cancers in the UK and has an excellent reputation for education & training, data analysis & research. The centre is recognised for subspecialty training by the RCOG.
Main duties of the job
The research component of the posts will be undertaken between the Royal Surrey and Brunel University with a view for a PhD higher degree. The clinical work at the Royal Surrey will be at ST6 level, with each fellow spending two full days of clinical work per week at the hospital, including ward and clinic work as well as regular theatre sessions. This will include robotic surgery and prior training and experience as a robotic surgical first assistance would be highly desirable.

This is a senior clinical post suitable for trainees ST5 or more, and with exposure to theatres, including both open and robotic gynaecological cancer surgery. The successful applicants
will join a team a team of two other full-time middle grade doctors, supported by one SHO. The successful applicant will very involved in the day-to-day pre and post-operative care of patients, theatre scheduling, clinics, weekly MDT and other departmental meetings. The department has a good clinical audit system with monthly M&M meetings, which the Fellow will be expected to contribute to and help to organize. There are very good opportunities to complete clinical audits and research using the departments dedicated database. It is expected that the Clinical Fellow undertake initial on-line training in Da Vinci robotics and will be proctored and taught in-house in use of these systems by the five Consultants, both patient-side and on the console. The Royal Surrey currently has three Da Vinci Xi surgical robots in clinical use, with all five of our Consultants fully trained in their use and with regular theatre availability. There are theatre lists on each weekday except for Fridays.
