Registered Theatre Anaesthetic / Scrub Nurse Band 5

If you are currently working as a scrub nurse and are ready for a move across to anaesthetics then come and work here! We are looking for an experienced, dynamic, flexible and highly motivated scrub nurse seeking a new challenge to develop and expand their role into anaesthetic nursing. As part of this career development, we will fund training with an approved course provider to cross skill you in a new area of theatre work (anaesthetics). Once qualified you will join our anaesthetic team working in theatres as an anaesthetic practitioner 100% of the time.

Your theatre nursing and organisation skills along with your ability to prioritise and remain calm under pressure in a busy team environment will ensure you are able to demonstrate your excellent communication skills and drive to succeed.

You should have experience in a wide range of specialties and be prepared to support the department during nights, evenings and weekends.

Main duties of the job

We are leaders in Major Laparoscopic Surgery & Robotic Surgery with the Minimal Access Therapy Training Unit - an internationally recognised centre of excellence created for the teaching of innovative laparoscopic surgical techniques.

Specialties here include: Colorectal, Urology, Gynae Oncology, Hepatobiliary, and Upper GI, Breast Surgery, Ophthalmology, Obstetrics, Major Head and Neck and ENT, Trauma & Orthopaedics and CEPOD.

We are the Regional referral centre for Upper GI work, including emergency Oesophagogastric cases.

Day Surgery is a purpose built unit covering many specialities including ENT, Maxillo Facial, Orthopaedics, Gynaecology, Urology, Pain and dedicated paediatric lists.

JD Scrub Nurse

Provide high quality individualised patient care at all times.Prepare the clinical environment to meet the requirements of the operating listand anticipated work load.Take part in or lead all stages of WHO Surgical Safety Checklist prior toundertaking any procedure.Ensure the safe preparation of the patient for operative procedures.Provide skilled assistance to the anaesthetist during anaesthetic procedures asrequired within operational policies.Assist with the safe transfer and positioning of patients onto the operating table.

Act as scrubbed or circulating assistant as required, carry out checks and countson swabs, needles, instruments and equipment in accordance with Trust policies.Comply with Health and Safety, Infection Control, COSHH and AAGBIregulations, adhering to Trust and departmental policies and procedures.Ensure equipment and stock levels are maintained appropriately.To act as a trained and skilled member of the priority & trauma team.Prepare and administer prescribed drugs to patients according to Trust Policy,and monitor the effects of those drugs.Monitor, assess and implement individualised perioperative patient care,including post resuscitation and in the immediate post-operative period for level1, 2 & 3 patients.Have the ability to work unsupervised and manage own time effectively.Maintain clinical records in accordance with current guidelines.Communicate effectively with patients, colleagues and other Trust staff.Report any adverse incidents to the appropriate person and via online reportingsystem without delay and according to policy.Maintain high standards of personal and professional conduct and performancein accordance with local policy and professional code of conduct.Be adaptable in order to take on other duties as required to meet the needs of theservice, provided appropriate training given.Use Trust computer systems provided appropriate training has been given.Participate in Third Tier On-Call rota
