Over half of all cancer patients will have radiotherapy as part of their treatment and it is a component in 40% of cancer cures.Radiotherapy services are having to respond to rapid progress in radiotherapy technology including advances in imaging techniques, computerized treatment planning systems and radiation treatment machines.
Main duties of the job
The Radiotherapy Subject Matter Expert will be employed through SSCA to support senior leadership, specifically the transformation lead within UHSx to make vital changes within the radiotherapy services.
The radiotherapy services have experienced a number of pressures and challenges and this post has been created to provide expert knowledge and strategic support to the transformation lead who is responsible for ensuring that radiotherapy services are able to meet current and future demands.
It is envisioned that the post holder will:
o Work with existing leadership to identify, prioritise and drive improvement projects across the cancer divisiono Bring the clinical expertise and knowledge of radiotherapy services to ensure that transformation projects will achieve the desired outcomeo Act as an information and expertise resource for existing leadership, providing advice and guidance to improve serviceso Help the transformation lead to engage with local staff and provide them with reassurance that transformation projects are clinically safe and robusto Work collaboratively across UHSx to ensure that the local population has access to radiotherapy services - right treatment, right place, right timeo Drive improvements in radiotherapy treatment pathways across the footprint to improve cancer patients' outcomes and experience
About us
Although the Surrey and Sussex Cancer Alliance is hosted by the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust, this role will be based mainly at University Hospitals Sussex based in Brighton and Eastbourne.

- Educated to masters level or equivalent level of experience of working at a senior level in specialist area.
- Professional registration with IPEM-UK or as a radiographer with HCPC or as a radiologist with GMC
Knowledge and Experience

- Extensive experience of working within a radiotherapy service
- Leadership and project management skills including change management
Desirable
- Must have a thorough understanding of the background to and aims of current cancer policy and experience of implementing cancer policy within providers or Commissioner environments
- Evidence of post qualifying and continuing professional development.
