Over half of all cancer patients will have radiotherapy as part of their treatment and it is a component in 40% of cancer cures.Radiotherapy services are having to respond to rapid progress in radiotherapy technology including advances in imaging techniques, computerized treatment planning systems and radiation treatment machines. At UHSx we want to provide the best care to our patients and need your help to transforming and future-proofing our radiotherapy service.

Main duties of the job

The transformation lead will be employed through SSCA to support senior leadership within UHSx to make vital changes within the cancer division. The cancer services have experienced a number of pressures and challenges and this post has been created to provide practical and strategic support to stretched leadership to ensure that the services are able to meet current and future demands.

It is envisioned that the post holder will:

o Work with existing leadership to identify, prioritise and drive improvement projects across the cancer divisiono Work collaboratively across UHSx to ensure that the local population has access to the best cancer care - right treatment, right place, right timeo Drive improvements in cancer treatment pathways across the footprint to improve cancer patients' outcomes and experienceo Support the Pathway managers in setting standards and providing quality assurance of cancer services across UHSxo be a conduit between SSCA and UHSx supporting senior leadership in both organisations and ensuing clear lines of communication and accountability are maintained.

About us

Although the Surrey and Sussex Cancer Alliance are hosted by the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust. This role will not be based at the Royal Surrey site, and will be mainly based out of University Hospitals Sussex in Brighton and Eastbourne.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Educated to masters level or equivalent level of experience of working at a senior level in specialist area
  • Experience of project and programme management techniques and tools such as Prince 2 or Managing Successful Projects

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • In depth additional expert knowledge acquired over a significant period of time in the following area(s) o improvement methodology o and/or programme management and patient flow, ideally in an NHS setting
  • Strong background of practical transformation experience
  • Subject matter expertise across a number of key areas relating to service improvement
  • Proven and significant leadership experience and/or formal management qualification
  • Leadership and project management skills including change management

Desirable

  • Evidence of post qualifying and continuing professional development.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of the background to and aims of current cancer policy and experience of implementing cancer policy within providers or Commissioner environments
  • Experience of developing and implementing policies and procedures related to cancer care across multiple NHS organisations
