Job summary
We are seeking a full-time Band 6 Medical Physics Technologist to provide maternity leave cover for 12 months in the Nuclear Medicine Section of the Medical Physics Department at the Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford.
You will join our large team of dynamic and friendly Medical Physicists and technologists who provide scientific support to the Royal Surrey County Hospital, five regional Nuclear Medicine Departments and a number of private clients. At the Royal Surrey the Physics team supports three SPECT/CT gamma cameras (including one digital CZT system), as well as running a comprehensive Molecular Radiotherapy service (including I-131 for benign and malignant thyroid disease, Y-90 SIRT, Y-90 synovectomy, Lu-177 DOTATATE, Ra-223 Xofigo and Lu-177 PSMA). We act as MPEs for the privately-run local PET/CT unit, which houses a new "digital" PET/CT system. Through our external contracts, we support a number of other SPECT/CT and PET/CT scanning services, as well as cutting-edge private molecular radiotherapy services.
You will be knowledgeable and enthusiastic about Nuclear Medicine, have a flexible approach to your duties and the ability to work both as part of the team as well as independently in a busy clinical environment.
Main duties of the job
This role encompasses all aspects of diagnostic and therapeutic Nuclear Medicine and the post holder will assist in the development of the service in response to scientific and clinical demand. The post holder's work will be supervised and signed-off by a registered Clinical Scientist or Medical Physics Expert as appropriate.The post holder will assist in the preparation and administration of Molecular Radiotherapy procedures, including associated dosimetry. In addition, the post holder will routinely carry out quality control tests on a range of radiation detection and medical imaging equipment, including SPECT/CT and PET/CT systems. The post holder must strive to ensure that the principles of good radiation safety are practiced and that relevant statutory regulations are complied with. The post holder will liaise closely with the Trust's Radiation Protection Advisor (RPA) and Radioactive Waste Advisor (RWA), as well as clinicians holding Administration of Radioactive Substances Advisory Committee (ARSAC) licenses. A key part of the role is to support the development and implementation of new procedures and techniques, which includes both routine service development, as well as contributing towards on-going clinical trials of Nuclear Medicine procedures. The post holder will work closely with other staff groups in the multi-disciplinary Nuclear Medicine team and with various other staff throughout the Trust.
