Job summary
Applications are invited for appointment of a substantive consultant in General Surgery with a specialist interest in Oesophago-Gastric (OG) surgery to join the existing team of OG cancer surgeons at the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust, Guildford.
The appointee will work within the team to enhance the existing profile and contribute to delivery of excellent clinical outcomes. The Unit has a strong clinical reputation, has contributed significantly to national trials for OG patients, the National OG Cancer Audit and has a developing academic profile.
The team is focused on innovation and the delivery of radical surgery to ensure optimised outcomes. They have also been leaders in prehabilitation and enhanced recovery pathways to facilitate the delivery of high-quality patient care. The RSNHSFT has dedicated theatre teams working together with an established pool of OG anaesthetists and intensive care specialists to optimise peri-operative care. The Trust has a strong profile in robotic surgery and the OG team utilises robotics for both benign and malignant pathologies.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will be expected to contribute to the emergency general surgery on-call rota as well as provide an on-call service for specialist OG surgery.
Dedicated OG cancer surgeons with excellent robotic surgery skills supplemented by an ability to bring new techniques and/or a strong academic credentials to the department are encouraged to apply.
