Job summary

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and flexible trainee engineer to join a dynamic team of engineers providing a comprehensive repair, maintenance and service to a range of healthcare providers across the Surrey and Hampshire area.

We are looking for a trainee Technician with a good grounding in electrical and electronic systems. Full manufacturer training will be provided to enable the individuals to work independently.

HNC/D in electronics / electrical engineering or equivalent technical qualification and experience is required. Applicants with less experience may be considered and initially appointed at a lower pay band.

You will have/develop skills in the following areas: good grounding in electrical and electronic engineering systems to component level.

The NHS is moving to 7-day working so flexibility of working patterns is expected within HPL.

Main duties of the job

JOB PURPOSE

The post holder will be a member of the electronic medical equipment (EME) team who will build on their basic skills and education to be able to perform electrical safety testing (EST) and some planned preventative maintenance (PPM) under the direction of the EME workshop manager.

Providing cover for the medical equipment library administrator (approx. 2 mornings per week and to cover annual leave).

Providing cover for the electronic medical equipment front of house administrator (approx. 1 day per week and to cover annual leave).

1. KEY RESULT AREAS/MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.1. Technical

The role calls for someone from an electronics/instrumentation engineering background and as such the post holder will require an understanding across a range of technologies and serviced that are covered by the EME team.

Engagement with third party vendors to identify suitable spares and materials to support maintenance and repair of medical equipment.

The ability to learn about new technologies in a dynamic working environment and to effectively follow policies and procedures.

Travel to other sites will be required as part of this role.

3.2 Professional and Qualifications

To work towards achievement of registration as a Clinical Technologist on the Register of Clinical Technologist (RCT).

The post holder will be expected to ensure that where skills lack and experience need to be developed, either within the team or at a personal level that these will be attained, to further the work of the Department.

HNC Electronic Engineering or equivalent and knowledge and experience equivalent

Sound knowledge of electrical and electronic engineering, precision electro-mechanical and computer systems.

3.3 General working requirements

To implement and ensure compliance with the departments quality policies in the areas of work for which the post holder carries responsibility.

To carry out all duties in accordance with the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act, relevant Statutory Regulations, Approved Codes of practice and Local Rules.

To participate in overtime when required.

To adopt flexible work practices in the event of emergencies or equipment failures, according to department and professional guidelines

To provide cover for the Equipment library administrator role for up-to 2 mornings per week and during periods when the post-holder is absent.

To provide cover for the EME Front of house role for up-to 1 day per week and during periods when the post-holder is absent.

To undertake any other duties commensurate to the grade as required by the EME Workshop Manager.
