Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity to recruit a Skin Clinical Nurse Specialist - to work within the Surgical Division to co-ordinate the delivery of acomprehensive Surgical Skin service in collaboration with the oncologyDivisionApplicants should be able to demonstrate experience as a Registered Part 1or 12 Nurse and a background of Cancer Nursing or Surgical Nursing andwith Clinical Nurse Specialist experience or interested in becoming a CNS.This role has a strong highly autonomous clinical component where the CNS will be key in assessing patient requirements and ensuring they receive aholistic treatment plan. You will act as key worker when appropriate and utilise expert knowledge to provide comprehensive specialist advice, assessment, information and psychological support.Support will be provided if this is a secondment role for you.

Main duties of the job

Applicants should be able to demonstrate experience as a Registered Part 1 or 12 Nurse and a background of Cancer Nursing or Surgical Nursing and with Clinical Nurse Specialist experience. This role has a strong highly autonomous clinical component where the CNS will be key in assessing patient requirements and ensuring they receive a holistic treatment plan and where appropriate end of treatment summary (EOTS) ensuring personalised care for all skin patients.

You will act as key worker when appropriate and utilise expert knowledge to provide comprehensive specialist advice, assessment, information and psychological support.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Be the named nurse for patients with a new diagnosis of skin cancer providing support at the time of diagnosis.
  • Deliver outpatient follow up clinics for skin cancer patients to support the existing consultant skin clinics within Skin Surgery as well as complex wound management.
  • As part of the multi-disciplinary team (MDT), maintain a seamless pathway of care for skin cancer patients. Address the specialist needs of skin cancer patients and relatives/carers through direct/indirect intervention, and to facilitate multi-disciplinary working.
  • Assess, implement and evaluate individual patient needs in collaboration with the lead clinicians and MDTs, to provide highest standards of care.
  • Develop, implement and audit care pathways with specific focus on standardising an appropriate care pathway for individual patients.
  • Undertake clinical and organisational audit, promoting the importance of undertaking such initiatives through multi-disciplinary collaboration.
  • To set up and run training programmes for the multidisciplinary team and other professionals with the objective of enhancing service and the patient experience, in liaison with the Clinical Nurse Specialists.
  • Act as a specialist resource, participating in and facilitating research-based practice. To deliver and empower others to deliver high standards of nursing care to this client group.
  • Liaise with local support services MelaNoMore/Fountain Centre.
