Job summary
- This Junior Clinical Fellow post would suit applicants with previous experience of critical care medicine and training in any acute speciality seeking to enhance this experience at a higher level of training.
- Applicants should be at CT2+ (or equivalent) level of training or above.
- Proficiency in anaesthesia/airway management is highly desirable but not essential.
- This fellowship is open to trainees with an interest in improving quality of care provided to sepsis patients whilst maintaining clinical skills and taking up a leadership role.
One clinical fellow post is available from August 2024 for an initial six months, but maybe extended for a further six months by mutual agreement.
This post will place the successful candidate in a dynamic ICU which actively participates in various National and International research projects.
Main duties of the job
This post will enable the successful candidate to further improve the management of Sepsis patients outside the ICU and prior to their admission to ICU. There are a lot of opportunities to develop QIP (Quality Improvement Projects) in Sepsis as it is presently attaining more and more national attention. Further, this post will also provide ample opportunity to participate in both national and international sepsis trials in which the unit is and will be participating.

The Sepsis Fellow would be expected to perform the following roles:
- Actively involved in developing and delivery sepsis pathways within the trust.
- Auditing the outcomes of Sepsis patients in the trust.
- Sepsis related projects in quality improvement and audit will be actively encouraged.
- Would have the opportunity to participate in multicentre sepsis trials the unit is part of already and those in the future.
- Expect to submit and present findings to HQI meetings.
- We have an annual presence and present our research at the ESICM Annual Congress.
- Teach and train doctors the Sepsis pathway and management of septic patients.
- A wide experience of patient management
- Practical interventions and both bedside and formal teaching are offered.
- Consultant supervision is available on a 24-hour basis from Consultant Intensivists.
- Opportunities may arise for the Clinical Fellow to take part in research and career development is actively encouraged.
