Job summary
The Trust is seeking to appoint a full time (10 PA) acute On-Call Consultant Paediatrician with an interest/expertise in Cardiology.
The Consultant will be expected to work with the Clinical Director in Paediatrics and other Consultants to promote the highest standards in Paediatric medical care. They will be expected to:
- Be enthusiastic to develop the service and promote improved multi-disciplinary and multi-agency services for children
- Promote the team approach to children's care, having due regard for the linking of acute, community, social, education and voluntary services.
- Partake in Consultant appraisal and revalidation
- Prior agreement to undertake any Supporting Professional Agreement activities elsewhere must be obtained from the Clinical Director.
- Be the lead Local Paediatric Consultant for Cardiology with the help of tertiary centre GOSH.
We have regular student placements from Southampton and Physicians Associates from the University of Surrey. The post-holder will be expected to participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
You must be fully registered with the GMC and hold a license to practice and be on the Specialist Register, or be within 6 months of attaining your CCT or equivalent at the interview stage.
Main duties of the job
This post consists of a mixture of outpatient and inpatient activity with the latter organised to improve consultant presence in the hospital outside office hours. Outpatient work will depend on the special interest of the successful applicant. Consideration will be given to applicants who wish to work less than full-time or in a job-share capacity.
Main Duties:
To work with the Clinical Director in Paediatrics and other Consultants to promote the highest standards in Paediatric medical care.
To work with the Lead administrator/secretary, other clinicians and link with community services.
To promote and develop multi-disciplinary and multi-agency services for children.
To promote the teams approach to children's care, having due regard for the linking of acute, community, social, education and voluntary services.
To provide cover for fellow Consultant colleagues in respect of periods of leave and organise leave in conjunction with Consultant colleagues.
To take part in Consultant appraisal and revalidation.
