Job summary
We are a progressive audiology service which provides multidisciplinary services including a diagnostic and rehabilitation service for children/adults, Baha service, Vestibular diagnostics and rehabilitation service, Tinnitus and Hyperacusis service and the provision of private hearing aids.
Staff members benefit from taking part in a wide range of educational and professional development opportunities comprising of monthly clinical training sessions, journal clubs, and case study sessions. Staff members are also supported to attend audiology training courses. In addition, there are plenty of in-house educational activities ranging from training programmes on audiology specialities (e.g., paediatric, tinnitus, vestibular diagnostics and rehabilitation, physiological measurements etc) to taking part in ongoing research projects.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will:
- Perform a range of technical activities related to the disorders of hearing for adults.
- Provide Audiological cover for ENT clinics.
- Provide a comprehensive hearing aid service to adult patients referred to the Audiology department including fitting and fine tuning of hearing aids.
- Help with the day to day running and routine organisation of Adult Audiological services in the dedicated clinic as directed by a senior audiologist.
- We expected to participate in the department's rotational scheme at different locations, to maintain a wide experience in a variety of clinics
- Participate with clinical supervision of trainee audiologists
- Update their own professional knowledge, keeping abreast of new technologies and Audiological techniques and be responsible for ensuring Continued Professional Development as required for state registration.
- Work in close relationship with the R&D Audiology lead and other Clinical leads to focus on improving specific areas of the service such as Patient experience, National and international professional relationships, Research and Knowledge exchange, Patient and Public involvement.
*A Band 4 on a development pathway can also be considered for this post. Confirmation to B5 will be subject to achievement of key objectives depending on person's knowledge and experience.

Job responsibilities
- Carry out routine administrative duties, to ensure that departmental set objectives are effectively met, and achievements monitored within the management structure of the Audiology Services department.
- Carry out routine clinical duties for adults related to ENT and Audiological Medicine, including pure tone audiometry, impedance and stapedius reflex testing.
- Carry out all routine technical duties related to the fitting, repairing and testing of hearing aids
- We responsible for the daily calibration of the Audiological equipment to ensure accurate results.
- Carry out daily stock control audits at the outreach clinics to ensure transparent audit trails of stock use, and stock availability to enable the Head of Services to operate an overall stock control process.
- Undertake specialised tests, and transpose the test results on to a computer, and make professional judgements as to what type and power of hearing aid should be prescribed and other appropriate management strategies.
- Undertake regular clinical sessions in order to provide a quality technical service.
- To provide advice to patients on all matters pertaining to hearing aids.
- Counsel, advice and support as necessary by use of counselling and communication skills, to minimise the disability and handicap resulting from auditory impairment and tinnitus.
- To advise on assistive listening devices and other services for the hearing impaired, and to refer to and liaise with a range of professional staff, and volunteer agencies to meet the patients special needs.
- To provide ongoing assessment and maintenance of hearing aids for adult hearing impaired patients.
- To have a knowledge of the operational working of the departmental patient I.T. management system.
- To be responsible for writing in hospital and departmental records to enable a transparent record of the patients consultation in compliance with Trust policies.
- To be able to work calmly and methodically whilst dealing with a busy and varied caseload, demonstrating good prioritisation and organisational skills.
