Job summary
This post is a Locum Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist who will work across Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The post holder will join the existing team of fifteen consultants based at the Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford. The main aim of this post is to support an increase in activity across the department. Duties will be flexible depending on the skills of the applicant - core duties will be antenatal and gynaecology clinics, on-call activity and elective gynaecology and caesarean section lists. Contribution to hysteroscopy, colposcopy, scanning services and scope of operating will depend on the applicant.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will join our team of consultants in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, with a specific focus on fetal medicine.
The post holder will participate in the on call rota which provides 72 hours consultant presence on Delivery suite. The on call consultant will conduct procedures, supervise and train junior doctors as well as conduct ward rounds to include reviewing midwifery-led cases on referral as appropriate. They will be also responsible for the care of antenatal and postnatal inpatients and for the smooth running of the Day Assessment Unit.
The post holder will be expected to cover emergency gynaecology service and carry out surgery for acute gynaecological conditions .
The consultant is not resident on call at night, but it is required that the consultant will attend when required within 30 minutes.

- Full GMC Registration
- MRCOG (or equivalent)
- Advanced Labour Ward Practice ATSM
- Evidence of training, experience and independent practice in Obstetrics, General Gynaecology.
Desirable
- CCT or eligible within six months of interview date and can demonstrate evidence that they are expected to achieve CCT within 6 months.
- Colposcopy accreditation
- Hysteroscopy ATSM
- Benign Gynaecology ATSM
- Obstetric ATSM including Obstetric Medicine, High Risk Pregnancy, Labour Ward lead
Experience
Essential
- Evidence of broad training in both obstetrics and gynaecology
- Evidence of experience in management of Labour Ward and ability to independently manage obstetric emergencies
- Able to manage antenatal women with complex problems.
- Knowledge and understanding of CTG interpretation
- Perform appropriate surgery for emergency gynaecology
- Independently manage women with early pregnancy complications
- Evidence of active participation in clinical audit
