Job summary

The role of Team Lead for Robotics includes leading a multi-disciplinary theatre team in performing robotic surgery. The successful candidate will ensure that all relevant staff are appropriately trained in robotics and ensure the smooth coordination of the robots across the surgical specialties. You will possess excellent organisational, communication, and leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop staff. Main duties of the job

The range of elective surgery performed is both varied and demanding. Our surgeons provide highly specialist expertise in the management of Gynaecology, Urology, Head and Neck, Oesophogastric and Hepatobiliary cancer surgery and this role will be key in facilitating the safe and effective transition to robotics for future theatre teams developing a robotic profile.

You will lead a multi-disciplinary team to ensure a high standard of care is available for all our patients and recent relevant experience of leading a team at band 6 level, or equivalent demonstrable experience, is essential. You will possess excellent organisational, communication, and leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop staff. Relevant robotic experience is essential to the role.

The successful candidate will be working closely with the Theatre Operations Manager, Consultant Surgeons, Speciality Managers and Admission Officers as well as other Theatre Team Leads, Procurement and Sterile Services to ensure safe and effective patient care within the department.

JOB PURPOSE

  • To be a clinical specialist in the field of perioperative nursing/operating department practice. This is a key role within the Trust with responsibility for the management of a designated area of theatre, in addition to maintaining clinical input.
  • The post holder will be a team leader in a specialist clinical area and will be responsible for providing clinical management, advice, support and teaching to all relevant personnel within the theatre environment.

They will have responsibility for managing, leading, encouraging and directing the theatre team, to promote evidence based clinical practice, ensuring the provision of a high quality and cost effective service to patients and service users.

JOB SUMMARY

  • To lead and develop the nursing & operating department practice teams in the provision of high quality, research based care that is patient focused.

  • To act as a role model and expert practitioner at all times and provide specialist advice through a superior level of knowledge and expertise on the care of the perioperative patient.

  • To manage the designated area of responsibility effectively and efficiently within allocated resources.

  • To manage and facilitate the development of staff creating a professional and effective team.

  • To foster a multidisciplinary approach to patient care in line with Clinical Governance, managing conflict and reconciling inter professional differences of opinion.
  • KEY RESULT AREAS/MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    General

    • Full management of a designated area of theatre.

    • Support training and development both within the specialist area of responsibility and the theatre department.

    • Manage and lead a multidisciplinary team, members of which change on a daily basis, ensuring high quality research based individualised patient care is maintained at all times.

    • Teach trained staff and students within the clinical area.

    • Implement local and national guidelines and recommendations, which relate to perioperative care.

    • Ensure identification and assessment of patients needs, assessing their requirements, planning and implementation of care, providing specialist advice on perioperative care.
  • Clinical

    • To lead the nursing and ODP team and ensure high quality, research based, individualised patient care is maintained at all times.

    • To provide a problem solving approach to patient care with responsibility for assessing and interpreting clinical assessment.

    • To ensure the theatre team prepares the clinical environment to meet the requirements of the operating lists and when on night duty unloads sterile instrument container trolleys as required.

    • To act as the patients advocate and give psychological support to the patient e.g. whilst in the anaesthetic room, during local anaesthetic procedures.

    • To give assistance to the anaesthetist and/or the Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) whilst in the anaesthetic room e.g. the application of monitoring equipment and the positioning of the patient.

    • To ensure the safe preparation of patients for operative procedures e.g. safe transfer and positioning of patients on the operating table, holding of limbs during skin preparation and draping, work with anaesthetist/ODP as and when required.

    • To demonstrate a superior level of knowledge and expertise in both scrub and circulating techniques.

    • When on night duty, to act as a recovery nurse and be responsible for the immediate care of the post anaesthetic patient.
