Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, motivated and enthusiastic Hand Therapist to support our hand therapy team, alongside our current Team Leader. We provide a service to both trauma and elective surgery working closely alongside three Hand and Upper Limb Surgeons, other consultants in fracture clinic and Physiotherapy ESP colleagues. The team also support the in-patient teams in splinting and fracture bracing.
We are looking for a skilled and experienced therapist with a knowledge of soft tissue injuries and fracture management to join our well respected and busy out-patient team. BAHT level 2 or equivalent preferred. We have a weekly hand therapy team meetings and in-service training.
We are a friendly and supportive team with a firm commitment to learning and development. The role offers a great opportunity for both professional and personal development by incorporating in-service training, clinical supervision, appraisal, peer support groups and dedicated CPD time.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will also be responsible for some clinical leadership and development of the occupational therapy hand team as well as carrying their own caseload. Working as an integral member of the MDT they will lead on audit and service development

Provides a specialist Hand Therapy service within a Multi-disciplinary team for patients at the Royal Surrey addressing the physical, emotional, social, spiritual and psychosocial aspects of their care. The Advanced Therapist will be a source of highly specialist clinical knowledge and an expert in the field of hand therapy in order to provide treatment to patients with conditions and injuries affecting the hand and wrist.
- Develops the hand therapy service within Occupational Therapy, delivering highly specialised assessment and intervention.
- Plans, coordinates, delivers and evaluates the hand therapy service
- Carries a caseload of patients with a mixture of complex and routine splinting needs, managing own appointment diary.
- Co-ordinates, supervises and supports therapists and students with differing levels of skills and knowledge within the hand therapy speciality.
- Responsible for the continuous service development of the specialty ensuring that the team knowledge base is current and evidence based.

- Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy/physiotherapy by recognised awarding body. RCOT/CSP
- Educated to masters level/ degree level/NVQ/ Certificate OR equivalent level of experience of working at a senior level/supervisor/ in specialist area.
- Satisfies the criteria for full Membership of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
- Further qualifications/Study in specialist area.
- BAHT level 2 or equivalent.
Desirable
- Must be a State Registered Occupational Therapist/physiotherapist
- An approved supervisor for degree students

- An understanding of the background to and aims of current healthcare policy/national guidance/CQC/ and appreciate the implications of this on engagement.
- Previous experience of working within an acute Hand therapy service.
- Knowledge of upper limb anatomy and normal biomechanics, alongside a broad range of orthopaedic and rheumatology pathologies affecting the hand, wrist and forearm
