Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Immunology & Allergy Nurse Specialist to join the team on a fixed term contract for one year to help with service pressures. We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated band 6 Nurse - previous experience in the specialty preferred but not essential as we will provide appropriate specialist training.

Main duties of the job

The Immunology & Allergy Service provides specialist immunology and allergy care to the population of Surrey and further afield. The team is based at The Royal Surrey Hospital NHS Foundation Trust delivering outpatient and day case care.

  • Further develop allergy and immunodeficiency services in the Trust in conjunction with the Band 7 Specialist Nurse

  • Act as highly specialist resource of knowledge providing relevant education and training to patients, other staff and learners linking in with the service.

Essential

  • Current NMC registration
  • First degree in nursing or an equivalent portfolio of evidence
  • Intravenous accreditation

Desirable

  • Have achieved or be working towards Masters level Qualification
  • Specialist Clinical Course in Allergy or Immunology or working towards
  • Physical assessment training
  • Nurse prescribing training

Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Significant post registration experience
  • Evidence of proactive involvement in the mentorship and development of nurses and nursing practice
  • Evidence of relevant involvement in meeting clinical governance objectives
  • Experience of running nurse-led clinics
  • Evidence of involvement in the development of programmes of care, protocols and clinical audit
  • Proven venepuncture and cannulation skills

Desirable

  • Significant experience within the specialty (or within a specialty that provides appropriate transferable skills) at a senior level
  • Evidence of professional/clinical knowledge in allergy and immunodeficiency at Band 6 or above
  • Previous experience of working as a Clinical Nurse Specialist
  • Experience of working on clinical trials
