Job summary
Applications are invited for a band 7 Computer Scientist post in the Regional Radiation Protection Service (RRPS) within the Department of Medical Physics at the Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford.
The RRPS is one 5 sections within the Department of Medical Physics, which provides medical physics services to the hospital, especially to St Luke's Cancer Centre, and to a number of surrounding hospitals.
The RRPS provides comprehensive radiation protection, diagnostic radiology physics and X-ray engineering services to the Trust and outside services to corporate organisations, companies, private hospitals, dentists, vets and many others. The service is active in research and development and training, including organising courses both locally and at a national level.
Main duties of the job
The post holder's main duties will be to undertake specialised and complex systems development and support. A primary focus of the software development will be in the area of Java development primarily on existing systems, hence pre-existing Java development skills will be required. Other forms of programming, scripting and web development will also be important. You should have a good honours degree in a relative subject. Considerable experience in a software development or scientific computing setting is required. Expertise in large scale data manipulation/storage and experience with HPC and virtualisation are desirable.
