Main duties of the job
This position is for a Highly Specialist Occupational Therapist within our well-established Orthopaedic/frailty team, working with patients who have an orthopaedic injury and/or frailty. The team covers all aspects of care for patients with a variety of co-morbidities, social and environmental challenges. The Occupational Therapist will support individuals to achieve their goals in self-care, productivity and leisure through assessment on the ward and onward referral to the Discharge team. The team work closely with the Orthopaedic team on the acute site from where patients are transferred for intense and comprehensive assessment, treatment and discharge provision at our community site in Milford.
This unit supports patients with both orthopaedic and frailty diagnoses. You will use your skills in complex manual handling, assessment and discharge planning, sharing your expertise of large equipment provision with junior staff. The team also provide support with bracing both upper and lower limb, which we are happy to teach the successful candidate if these skills are not part of your repertoire.

Essential
- Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy by recognised awarding body College of Occupational Therapists.
- Educated to masters level/ degree level/NVQ/ Certificate OR equivalent level of experience of working at a senior level/supervisor/ in specialist area.
- Satisfies the criteria for full Membership of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
- Further qualifications/Study
- Member of the appropriate special interest group.
Desirable
- Must be a State Registered Occupational Therapist.
- An approved Occupational Therapy supervisor for OT degree students
Knowledge and skills
Essential
- Completed all core Junior rotations
- Extensive experience within ortho-geriatric and frailty in an acute NHS Trust,/ Community Trust , at a Senior Level.
- Evidence to support knowledge base in specialist area
- Evidence of post registration education and continuous professional development
- Specialist clinical skills in ortho-geriatric and frailty
- Knowledge of systems used for data recording and reporting
