Applications are invited for the post of Locum Consultant Ophthalmologist at Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust.
The RSFT Eye Department is committed to research with several ongoing studies and trials in Medical Retina, Uveitis and Glaucoma with frequent publications. We have a strong audit culture and a Consultant who is the KSS Training Programme Director for Ophthalmology for specialist training.
We cover a large geographic area with the main hub at the Royal Surrey Hospital but we have satellite clinics at Haslemere, Cranleigh and Badgerswood. We also have a well-established joint on-call service with our local Trust Ashford and St Peter's Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will be required to provide a general ophthalmology service. We are a small department, but provide several regional subspecialist services and are also active in research with research fellow posts and strong links to the University of Surrey.

Job responsibilities
There is special emphasis on teaching at RSH, and all consultants are expected to take a full part in organising and delivering some of this teaching. The Trust holds regular educational half-days which involve all members of the department and for which clinical activity is cancelled, and there is also a Friday morning registrar teaching session to which all consultants contribute on a rolling rota. The post holder would be required to take an active part in leading and delivering a cutting edge clinical service in the management of surgical retinal patients as well as general patients. The post holder will also be expected to participate in the general teaching, management, and on-call duties of the department, as well as in seeing ward referrals and performing patient support activities within the hospital. They will undergo annual appraisal and job planning, and will be expected to participate in the development and audit of ophthalmology services, within both the secondary care and primary care settings. They will be expected to participate in the audit and educational half day activities of the eye department. They will also be expected to foster good working relationships with all the ophthalmologists of the Departments networked hospitals. They will be expected to comply with recommendations contained within relevant good practice guidelines, including those published by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and GMC.
