Job summary
This post is based at the award-winning Stokes Centre for Urology at the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust in Guildford and is for a Consultant Urological Surgeon with an interest in robotic pelvic oncology.
The job is a full time post, comprising of 10 Programmed Activities (PAs). The postholder will be expected to demonstrate flexibility regarding the job plan and also consider annualised job planning.
The post has been created to ensure the high quality provision of urological services at the Royal Surrey which will include supporting cancer diagnostic and treatment pathways, as well as supporting the general Urology workload.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be a key member of the Urology team and will involve undertaking both general theatre and robotic surgery lists for prostate and bladder cancer as well at Outpatient clinics.
The post holder will participate in the general urological workload of the department, including helping to ensure that cancer wait times and the Keogh standards are met. The post is for a Urological Surgeon with extensive experience in robotic pelvic surgery. They will be placed on the general on-call rota of the department. Middle grade cover is always available when on-call.

The balance of the job plan in terms of PAs delivered will equate to 10PAs (8 DCC, 1.5 Core SPA to support the requirements of revalidation which include activities such as participating in audit, CPD and mandatory training, in accordance with Trust policy) and 0.5 additional SPA. The successful candidate will have a job planning session after 3-6 months of being in post to review their timetable and SPA commitments.
It is expected that there will be some flexibility around the timing of any duties and activities, reflecting role development. It is, of course, also expected that clinical need of patients will always take precedence over other activities in the job plan.
