This post is Temporary 5 days per week role, Monday to Friday. Starting in September/October 2023 - Ending 22nd December 2024. This is maternity cover post.
An opportunity has arisen for a full time temporary band 6, joint tissue viability and lymphoedema nurse specialist within the community tissue viability and lymphoedema service. This post is a dual role where the post holder will learn both specialties as many patients have wounds and lymphoedema.
The tissue viability and lymphoedema team is a small team of expert nurses and a physiotherapist working closely with community nurses, practice nurses, other specialist nurses and care homes across the RSFT. The team provides clinical advice on all wound and lymphoedema management in the community setting, monitoring and driving down pressure ulcer incidence across the community division.
The team are based at Milford Hospital and Beacon Centre in Guildford, with satellite clinics in Haslemere Hospital, Farnham hospital and Staines.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will support the leads in maintaining effective and efficient systems for pressure ulcer reporting, as well as the interpretations and analysis of route cause analysis (RCA) findings for the development of division-wide action planning and patient pathway development.
To develop and deliver tissue viability/pressure ulcer and leg ulcer prevention and management training for all clinical staff across the community division.
To support and participate in the development of division-wide projects pertinent to tissue viability, e.g. Leg Ulcer Pathways, Pressure Ulcer Pathway. Interpretation and implementation of National Guidelines, ensuring best practice is adopted across the organisation.
This post will also provide advice and treatment for patients with lymphoedema. Following induction and training the post holder will autonomously assess and treat patient with lymphoedema. This will include taking a full medical history, diagnosing lymphoedema, identifying causes and carrying out treatment. The treatment includes complex decongestive therapy (manual lymphatic drainage and compression bandaging). The overall aim of the lymphoedema service is to empower patient to self-manage their lymphoedema which is a lifelong condition.
