Job summary
Applications are invited for this Trust Clinical Fellow Post in Paediatrics ST1-2 level working alongside a well-established team which includes other junior doctors at ST 1-2 level and 9 middle grade ST3-7 Specialist registrars
The post-holder will work as part of this team, rotating between consultant teams to allow for a wide spread of experience in specialty including specialist clinics. Whilst the needs of the service are paramount, individual training needs are taken into account.
Although this is not a training post, applicants will be encouraged to gain postgraduate qualifications in Paediatrics, such as MRCOG or DRCOG and continuing professional development is encouraged. Support in studying will be given to appropriate appointees.
This post is aimed at ST1-2 level trainee who has interest in pursuing a career in Paediatrics or a GP trainee who wishes to broaden their experience within Paeds.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder's main duties are to provide to the consultants and middle grade doctors and include (depending upon experience):
- In-patient care and ward rounds
- Attendance at Outpatient clinics
- Take part in the Paediatric SHO night and weekend on-call rota
- Cover for ST 1-2 trainees when they are absent on annual or study leave
- Covering other absences within firms (depending upon experience)
- Teaching and education of medical students and other staff
- Audit
The successful candidate with work a team based rota shared with the other eight SHO's.

This post is for a SHO in Paediatrics (ST 1-2 level), working alongside a well-established team which includes twelve consultants, an associate specialist, three doctors at ST 4-8 level, two speciality doctors and nine SHOs. This is a fixed-term contract to cover a HEKSS Deanery vacancy until August 2024.

Although this is LAS post and not a Deanery training post, applicants will be encouraged to gain postgraduate qualifications in Paediatrics or General Practice, and continuing professional development is encouraged. Support with studying will be given to appropriate appointees.
The Department is in an exciting phase of development, including ongoing projects to deliver a consultant-delivered 7 day hospital service and other planned future service developments. This development allows ample opportunity for doctors of all grades to participate in service development, audit and research and the appointee will be encouraged to do this.
