Job summary
This is a fixed-term post (12 months) for a Locum Consultant Cardiologist with a special interest in Interventional
Cardiology. The appointee will be based at the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust
for 7.5 Programmed Activities and have approximately 2.5 Programmed Activities
at St Georges University Hospitals Foundation Trust to perform catheter
lab based coronary intervention, including contributing to the South West
London PCI on-call rota. The appointee will also contribute to the non-invasive
Frimley Park/Royal Surrey Cardiology on-call rota.
The
appointee will be expected to be proficient in the performance of modern
cardiac interventional procedures, and to participate in the development of the Cardiology service.
We

interests. A trust-wide mentor and coaching programme provides a perfect
backdrop for new consultants to develop and flourish within the team. Whilst
more experienced consultants will benefit from the broad-base available to develop
and establish services in a supportive environment.
Main duties of the job
Attend multidisciplinary team meetings;
Carry out weekly Cath Lab lists at St Georges and the Royal Surrey;
Contribute to education and training of other staff;
Contribute to the cardiology service development, (PCI) meeting the needs of our patients and the strategic aims of the Trust;
Undertake ward rounds on the cardiology inpatients and supervise the junior staff on the wards;
See general adult cardiology patients from acute unselected medical take;
Contribute to Audit and Research;
Provide outpatient cardiology clinic support for our increased number of referrals;
In-reach into the Acute Medical Unit as Consultant of the Week (CoW).
Participate in the Royal Surrey/Frimley Park non invasive weekend on-call rota;
Participate in the South West London PCI on call rota.
Participate in the service governance structures;
Consultant level shop floor input to deliver early and appropriate clinical decision making for emergency admissions
In reach into EAU/A&E to support emergency admission
Assessing and assigning patients for on-going inpatient care, short stay inpatient care in the unit, ambulatory care or discharge

(10PAs) introduced as part of service growth. The appointee to this post would
join the department of 5 full time Consultants and 2 Associate Specialists. This
post comes with dedicated PCI clinical sessions to provide
service to the Surrey aging population.
The successful
applicant will be experienced in adult interventional cardiology with an
interest in Angioplasty.
The
appointee will be on the joint Royal Surrey and Frimley Park hospital on-call rota
for non-invasive coronary intervention, as well as the South West London PCI
rota. The details of both rotas are contained in the overview job plan below.
The
post holder will have a commitment to inpatient general cardiology at RSH to
facilitate the care and management of acute hospital admissions on a dedicated
cardiology ward (Merrow, 24 beds). In addition to these beds on Merrow ward,
the post holder will oversee the 6-bedded co-located CCU during their
participation in the consultant of the week rota. The model of inpatient care following the
appointment of this post will be 1 in 6 weeks on the ward as consultant of the
week. During this week, all other clinical activity is cancelled to facilitate
full presence on the ward, including in-reach support to other areas, and
medical patients on Merrow ward.
Candidates with an
interest in research, and / or medical education would be strongly encouraged. Equally,
candidates with an interest in medical leadership, and in service development /
