Job summary

This consultant Multi Professional Approved Clinician (MPAC) post is an exciting new role withinan acute inpatient unit (Ward 36) at the Radbourne Unit,Derbyshire. It is an opportunity to shape the workforce strategy.

The MPAC Consultant will provide strong, visible clinical leadership within the developing pathway for male inpatient unit and provide expert guidance and support to other areas of the organisation that require their expertise. You will work alongside a medical consultant to lead the MDT and provide a patient centred care. You will undertake responsible clinician duty for all your patients on the ward.

You will support individuals using the service to improve and manage their mental health,work towards their recovery and personal goals and manage ongoing risks in preparation for community living.

The role provides highly specialist clinical expertise, leadership and assurance across services, supporting high standards of care, safety, quality and governance. The post holder will work autonomously within national legislation, professional codes of practice and Trust policies, while contributing to service development, quality improvement and system working.

Main duties of the job

You will be the Responsible Clinician for those under your care in the acute inpatient unit. Focused on ensuring that patients on your ward always receive person centred care and are managed safely, effectively and with compassion is a priority. As the Responsible Clinician you will lead, coordinate, and deliver care and complete all statutory duties required.

You must have a good understanding of psychotropic medications and ability to prescribe in patients with complex mental health issues. Support will be available via the pharmacist and the consultant psychiatrist on the ward.

You must have substantial experience of providing consultant level care in acute inpatient environments.
