The closing date is 12 April 2026
Job summary
Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (DHCFT) are looking to recruit a number of Associate Hospital Managers (AHM's) to enhance their existing team.
AHM's are lay members specifically appointed to review the detention of patients subject to certain sections of the Mental Health Act 1983 (MHA).
The successful candidates will participate in AHM panels consisting of 3 members to review the care, treatment and detention of patients who are subject to the MHA. They will review written reports provided by healthcare professionals, to decide if the grounds for continued detention under the MHA are satisfied.
AHM's are authorised by the Trust, under section 23 of the MHA to discharge detained patients if they no longer meet the criteria for detention.
The role is voluntary, but an attendance allowance of £60 per half day session and travel expenses will be made by the Trust. The majority of hearings are held over MS teams, but, may be face-to- face at the patient's request. In these instance the hearing will be held in a number of designated sites across Derbyshire.
The post holder will need to have an interest in mental health issues and/or have worked in the field and must have good communication skills. In this position the post holder must be able to make a decision in a fair and lawful manner based on the evidence available.
Although previous experience is desirable, AHM's do not require any special skills or qualifications as training will be provided.
