As a recreational co-ordinator you will have responsibility for co-ordinating a service that provides recreational activities for in-patients at the New exciting Derwent Unit.This includes co-ordinating a small team of recreational activity workers, Gym Instructor, Peer support workers
You will need to ensure there is a co-ordinated Recreational Service that enhances the service users stay in hospital. The post holder will embed the recovery philosophy into the programmes in an appropriate way using groups and one to one methods of engaging Service Users. They will source and plan for specialist providers, speakers, and facilitators to provide groups as appropriate, and build partnerships with community providers. To do this the recreational co-ordinator will be expected to travel in the community to set up collaborative agency working.
The role involves organising a staff rota for the Recreational Team over a seven-day period. It involves introducing service users to the Recreational Service, organising, planning and facilitating recreational activities. To be offered clinical support and work under the supervision of clinical lead Occupational Therapist.
The post holder will promote social inclusion and enhance the autonomy of the service user.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will support the delivery of a quality recreational service, working as the lead for the Recreational Team with the support and supervision of the Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist.
Build awareness of the recovery philosophy and the social inclusion agenda, promoting autonomy and enabling choice.
Support service-users by prompting them to attend recreational activities, where necessary and maintaining specified levels of engagement.
Carry out a wide range of individual and group activities, as directed by the needs of the service.
Undertake a range of activities, working flexibly in accordance with the needs of service-users and the service.
Comply with the administrative duties including statistics and production of publicity information.
Demonstrate effective time management when preparing and running activities.
To facilitate service user responsibility, choices, and participation, within the recreational activities.
Complete environmental risk assessments, activity risk assessments and ensure the trust group work policy is adhered to. To highlight and report any findings to the Clinical lead Occupational Therapist.
Reports any changes in occupational functioning that may indicate either positive or negative effects of treatment and communicate these to the Occupational Therapists and the Hub team.
