Job summary

This is a fantastic opportunity for a Lead Consultant Clinical / Forensic Psychologist to work within the Division of Psychology and Psychological Therapies (DP&PT) of Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. The post is to act as the Lead Psychologist for the Adult Neurodevelopmental Learning Disability Services within North Derbyshire locality. The post holder will require experience and expertise for working with adults with learning/intellectual disabilities in community settings.

The Adult Learning Disability Service in North Derbyshire has an opening for an 8C Lead Consultant Clinical Psychologist/Forensic Psychologist (0.6 WTE) who will be responsible for leading, managing and co-ordinating the development of an autonomous and systematic psychology service to adults with learning disabilities and/or autism across the locality.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work within the Adult Learning Disability Service alongside an established and developing Psychology Team within the Adult Neurodevelopmental Services.

The role will look to provide specialist support and supervision to the team of psychologists and to non-psychologists in the wider multi-disciplinary teams in addition to working directly with service users across the North County of Derbyshire.

The Service is committed to person-centred practices as part of a multi-disciplinary and multi-agency process to consider individual and systemic needs from a holistic perspective.

The post will be based in the Community Teams, Ash Green, Chesterfield but the service holds bases across the whole of the County of Derbyshire also. The post will sit within the wider Division of Psychology and Psychological Therapies (DP&PT) in DHCFT.

The Adult Learning Disability Services are embedded in the Adult Neurodevelopmental Service and includes working alongside colleagues in Psychology, Psychiatry, Learning Disability Nursing, Occupational Therapy, and Speech and Language Therapy.

At present, the wider service is commissioned to work with adults with a learning disability who present with specialist health needs and to provide consultation to colleagues in the local mental health teams in relation to clients who present with autism in the absence of a learning disability.

The service continues to actively evolve to respond to the changing needs of local populations in accordance with local and national policy and guidance.

The successful candidate will have an active interest in this highly specialist area and will be supported by the Deputy Heads of Psychology and Psychological Therapies for ND and Specialist Services and the Lead Consultant Forensic Psychologist for South Derbyshire, all who have a wealth of experience and expertise across these areas.

There will be access to CPD opportunities and cross service networking to continue to enhance clinical expertise and understandings.

There are also opportunities to provide and receive specialist supervision and training within the teams.

In addition to the psychologists working within the learning disability service, there is a strong Division of Psychology and Psychological Therapies within the Trust where access to specialty meetings, lead/consultant meetings and trust-wide specialist supervision and CPD opportunities are available.

The Trust also encourages the participation in personal and professional development and has good links with the regional university training courses in terms of teaching opportunities, trainee selection and trainee placements.

The successful candidate must be registered with the Health Care Professions Council, eligible for Chartered Status with the BPS, and be able to meet the travel requirements of the post.

  • Post -graduate doctorate in Clinical Psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996 or those in lateral transfer) as accredited by the B.P.S. and/or Forensic Psychology qualification and eligibility for Chartered status of the BPS
  • Registered with the Health Professions Council as a Practitioner Psychologist
  • Demonstrates a clear ongoing commitment to a specialist area of expertise in psychology for working with adults with learning disabilities and/or autism

Desirable

  • Significant post qualification training in some aspect of relevant practice, e.g. a specific therapeutic intervention
  • Leadership and management training.

Knowledge/Skills/Experience

Essential

  • Substantial post-qualification experience, a significant amount of which should have been working within specialist community-based services for adults with learning (intellectual) disabilities and/or autism.
  • Experience of managing professional staff.
  • Experience of taking full clinical responsibility for clients with learning disabilities and/or autism who have a range of complex psychological needs requiring multidisciplinary care, and across a wide range of care settings
