Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated Occupational Therapist to join a friendly and supportive OT team working within our Older Adult Dementia ward at Kingsway Hospital.

Cubley Court is a 36-bedded Assessment and treatment unit for men and women with an Acute Organic illness (Alzheimer's disease and other dementias).

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic band 5 Occupational Therapist, who is interested in providing Specialist OT Assessments and interventions to adults with Dementia within an acute inpatient service.

You will need to be flexible and work a shift pattern across the day that supports the 7 day programme.

We offer a comprehensive and supportive preceptorship programme for all newly-qualified Occupational Therapists.

We welcome experienced, newly-qualified OTs and soon-to-be- qualified OTs to apply.

Experience of dementia is desirable but not essential as support and training will be given including an opportunity to use specialist assessment tools.

Main duties of the job

As a Band 5 OT you will play a key role in delivering holistic, person-centred assessments and therapeutic interventions that promote recovery and independence in supporting a safe discharge from ward to home or 24 hour care.

Whilst the focus for OT is on functional assessments you will also have opportunity to plan and facilitate therapeutic groups and 1:1 sessions within the ward; and support the OT assistants in delivering a variety of activity groups.

You will embrace in the delivery of best practice guidelines for Dementia and Occupational Therapy.

You will work within a team of Occupational Therapists, OT Assistants and Recreational Support Workers that is very much embedded within the wider multi-disciplinary team.

Part of your role includes providing supervision to OT Assistants and organising the delivery of the OT group programme across the wards

You will need to be a dynamic clinician with good interpersonal skills to enable engagement of service users and staff in the ward therapeutic programme.
