Job summary

We are very excited that as part of our psychology expansion plans within the Derbyshire Perinatal Service, we have a newly created post for an 8b Clinical Psychologist. We are a growing psychology team, who are passionate about the care we provide to the people we work with and the support we provide to each other and the wider team.

Within the perinatal speciality we work with mental health difficulties around the transition to motherhood, including attachment difficulties, birth trauma, tokophobia, puerperal psychosis as well as mood and anxiety presentations. The role involves providing individual and systemic support to women/birthing people and their families in Derbyshire and supporting the consultant clinical psychologist in leading the team to provide high quality care. There will be opportunities to provide supervision and consultancy, deliver training, develop an area of specialist interest and one's own leadership style.

All candidates must be registered with the HCPC, meet the travel requirements, and have an interest in perinatal psychology.

Main duties of the job

The role involves providing clinical leadership from a psychological and trauma informed model of care across the perinatal service. The successful candidate will be responsible for the provision of community clinical psychology services, in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, for women/birthing people who are pregnant, or up to 2 years postnatal, with a wide range of complex and severe mental health presentations.

The post holder will play a key role in the continued development of the service, including referral and treatment pathways, service evaluation, ensuring equitable access, and liaison with stakeholders. The post involves working closely with maternity services, secondary services, universal healthcare, and third sector organisations as well as offering advice and consultation to the psychology team, clinical leads, wider MDT, and colleagues on matters related to the psychological needs and issues relevant to the service and its users.

Through the perinatal quality network, there will be opportunities to attend peer reviews of other perinatal services, specialized training workshops and annual forums.

About us

The service consists of a 6 bedded inpatient unit, a community team with bases in north and south Derbyshire, and a new maternal mental health service. The inpatient and community services are accredited by the Royal College of Psychiatrists, highlighting the excellent and specialized care provided by the service. The MDT currently includes psychiatrists, psychologists, CPNs, nursery nurses, occupational therapists, team leads, peer support workers, a social worker, and a service manager, all of whom possess great enthusiasm and a strong passion for working with women and their families during the perinatal period.

The psychology department facilitates specialized supervision (dissociation, EMDR) and departmental meetings, supports personal and professional development, and has good links with university training courses in terms of teaching opportunities, trainee selection and placements. The Trust goes above and beyond to ensure staff are being looked after and feel supported.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Post graduate doctorate in Clinical Psychology (or its equivalent for those who qualified prior to 1996 or those in lateral transfer) as accredited by the BPS/HCPC
  • Eligible for chartered status with the BPS
  • Registered with the HCPC
  • Formal training in the supervision of other psychologists

Desirable

  • Further training / qualifications in research methodology, staff training, and/or other fields of applied psychology
  • Chartered status with BPS
  • EMDR or T-CBT training

Experience

Essential

  • Qualified for a minimum of four years, working at 8a level for at least two years
  • Expertise and interest in a specialist area relevant to perinatal mental health
  • Substantial experience of working with range of complex presentations
  • Experience of leading service delivery / transformation
  • Evidence of CPD
  • Substantial experience of service evaluation

Desirable

  • Experience of working with risk, challenging presentations
  • Experience of designing and facilitating group interventions
  • Experience of working on an inpatient unit
