Job summary

We are currently looking to recruit and enthusiastic Children's Nurse to join our team on a permanent basis.The Children's Community Nursing Service is a small but well-established service that provides care to children and young people who have an identified nursing need/ long term health need, supporting and empowering families to manage their child at home and in a variety of settings across Blackpool. The service also provides the special school nursing service to a number of special schools across the Blackpool and Fylde and Wyre area.You will be part of a multi-professional team and will require excellent communication skills. We will offer a comprehensive induction and competency programme; prior competency evidence of IV therapy, Venepuncture/ blood sampling, enteral feeding device care, tracheostomy care and Medical Devices will be considered useful.The children's community team cover a seven day service from 8am-9pm. We support nursing care in the community to facilitate early discharges, prevent hospital admissions or readmissions and as support children with health needs in their school.We support education staff to meet the health needs of children by training them and developing care plans and work alongside other multi agency teams to support children to achieve best outcomes.This post is for 36 hours per week on a permanent.Daily access to your own vehicle for managing community visits is required.

Main duties of the job

The applicant must be dynamic, dedicated, self-motivated, and able to work well independently but also within a team. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential for the role as the successful candidate will deal with children, young people and families and the wider multidisciplinary team in the community. As a band 5 nurse the applicant will be expected to deputise for band 6 nurses when necessary and supervise junior members of staff.

The post holder will be based at Newton Drive Health Centre located close to Blackpool Teaching Hospital . They can expect to be well supported via various routes including Trust induction, local team induction programme, clinical supervision, and Team meetings, Appraisal / Personal Development Review / Personal Development Plan etc.

They will need to be a car driver to enable them to undertake the essential travel within this role.

Essential

  • Registered Sick Children's Nurse/Child branch
  • Evidence of recent CPD relevant to current Practice
  • Medicine management and BLS Mandatory training

Experience & Knowledge

  • Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Able to utilise IT skills to document events on a day-to-day basis, write up minutes from meetings and disseminate accordingly.
  • Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures including safeguarding and disability.
  • Knowledge of recognised health related issues in children and young people with complex and life limited conditions.

Desirable

  • 2 years post registration experience.
  • To supervise junior staff on a day-to-day basis, to include 1:1 and appraisal monitoring of non-qualified staff.
  • Dexterity and co-ordination is required for IV, CVL, IM interventions, the administration of medications, passing of naso-gastric, gastrostomy and tracheostomy tubes.
